Recovery of Platinum, Rhodium, Gold, and Iridium from Spent Catalysts

We have been executing a series of contracts for a client in Shangrao, Jiangxi, focusing on recovering precious metals from spent catalysts. The client originally operated a facility processing 600 tons of precious metal catalysts and 2,000 tons of silicon waste annually. To boost their competitive edge, they decided to expand their capacity by adding 2,400 tons of precious metal catalyst processing per year.

Subsequently, starting in November 2020, the client awarded our company three consecutive contracts. Under these agreements, we are building a dedicated palladium refining production line and renovating their No. 1 and No. 2 production workshops along with their R&D building. We are also installing and will operate the waste gas treatment systems for these facilities.

The project employs multiple advanced processes. For catalysts containing platinum, palladium, rhodium, gold, and iridium-ruthenium, our team uses a combination of roasting pretreatment and hydrometallurgy. This method effectively recovers the precious metals and produces ruthenium trichloride. For spent ternary catalysts, we apply smelting pretreatment followed by hydrometallurgy to extract palladium, platinum, and rhodium. Furthermore, we process spent silver catalysts through desilvering, electrolysis, and hydrometallurgy to recover silver.

The project includes all necessary auxiliary facilities and incorporates comprehensive waste gas treatment systems. We expect the completed facility to achieve an annual output of 64 tons of precious metals and their compounds. Our team is currently handling the installation, and we are progressing according to the project schedule.
