1. Understanding Catalyst Loss Mechanisms

Our Pt-Pd-Rh alloy catalyst operates at 800-950°C under 304-912 kPa pressure. During standard operation, the system loses 0.1-0.15g platinum group metals (PGMs) per ton of HNO₃ produced through three primary pathways:

First, high-temperature gas streams carry away about 50% of the metal. These particles then decompose and settle in the tower's cooler sections. Meanwhile, another 25% migrates into the absorption system where it forms acid sludge. The remaining 25% gradually builds up as scale on equipment surfaces.

2. Implementing the Recovery Process

2.1 Pretreatment Procedures

For detachable components:
Technicians first immerse parts in 10% phosphoric acid solution
They maintain immersion for at least 36 hours
The team then collects the detached scale layers

For fixed equipment:
Operators use motorized nylon brushes for mechanical cleaning
They combine this with high-pressure water rinsing
The process ensures complete scale removal

2.2 Pyrometallurgical Enrichment

This critical stage involves four key steps:
Workers first conduct reduction smelting
They then perform acid leaching to remove iron
Next, they extract precious metal concentrate
Finally, they complete the refining and purification

3. Executing the Smelting Process

3.1 Preparing Materials:
The process begins with iron oxide-rich scale
Workers add fluxes including SiO₂ and CaO
They also include coke as the reducing agent

3.2 Managing Reactions:
In the 1500-1600°C electric arc furnace:
The initial phase produces: 2Fe₂O₃+2CO→4FeO+2CO₂
The intermediate stage yields: 6FeO+6CO→6Fe+6CO₂
The final reaction generates: 2FeO+C→2Fe+CO₂
